2019/2020 Winter Work
Winter Greens Prep:
–
Completed Snow mold applications to all Greens
–
Two topdressing applications completed as of
December
–
Sod Cut surface drainage channels on holes 4, 5
& 17 to aid in the removal of surface water and prevent ice cover.
- Will install
subsurface drainage in these areas like process completed on #8.
–
Opened subsurface drain lines on 8 and 9 using
gravel channels to assist in surface drainage
–
Installed supplementary 4” subsurface drainage
to the back right of #8 green and basin in surrounding rough to aid in removal
of excess water. Drainage system is
independent from existing 2” XGD greens drainage which had improved the area
but required additional support for the large volume of water that collects in
the area.
–
Will complete additional chlorothalonil and
topdressing application to greens during next appropriate weather window to aid
in winter disease and desiccation pressure.
9th Tee Project:
–
Stripped contaminated primary rough and regraded
tee complex and bed. Seeded with a blend
of Turf type tall fescue and rye grass.
–
Removed all plant material in existing bed and
repurposed in other areas including moving hollies to screen tennis courts,
path to pub patio and moved Dwarf Maple to front entrance.
–
Planted 100 privet shrubs to serve as screening
for parking lot.
–
Added 6 yards of distance to tee box using
bentgrass sod from 7 tee.
7th Tee Project:
–
Squared and fixed alignment of existing forward
tee. Regraded and seeded surround.
–
Constructed new forward tee box using existing
bentgrass sod from 7 tee.
–
Will continue work to divide, re-align and
square other existing tee boxes.
Leaf Removal:
–
New Ventrac Vac system has greatly improved leaf
removal process.
–
Continue to have a positive relationship with
City of Shaker Maintenance officials who are removing our collected leaf and
small yard waste left on course perimeter at no expense.
Winter Traffic Diversion:
–
Used stakes and ropes to mark greens and
temporary pins in approaches.
–
Installed silt fence around trouble greens where
the public ignored the ropes and stakes and went on our putting greens. Holes
#13,16,17,10
18th Tee Bed Renovation Project:
–
Removed overgrown shrubs that were in poor
health
–
Reshaped bed to complement existing brick pad
and bench
–
Installed low maintenance perennial plants, will
supplement with additional plantings when spring availability allows.
Parkland Privet screening:
–
Obtained an additional 100 privet shrubs at
discounted rate in late fall.
–
Planted to screen parkland from 1 green complex
and back of #2 pro tee after removing hedges that were ill suited for the area
and objective.
–
Repaired access gate to allow tree lawn access
to dump leaves/waste.
Tree Work:
–
Acquired dump trailer allowing us to haul/dump
logs off site at no additional fee. Had
previously required organic dumpsters ($400 ea.) to remove materials. 2 or 3 small trees per dumpster, large trees
were requiring multiple dumpsters. This
will allow us to continue to complete majority of tree work in house including
work that had been quoted out to insurance from storm damage in late August and
additional damage from Thanksgiving windstorm.

Elm may need outsourced due to power lines)

Will schedule stump grinding when tree work is
completed, soil and seed turf type tall fescue.
Clubhouse and Common Grounds:
–
Front of clubhouse including tennis courts
thoroughly cleaned in December. (March
last year)
–
Removed overgrown spruce trees by loading dock
and limbed up maple for aesthetics and to keep trees off clubhouse roof. Will install fence screening at electrical
box.
–
Starting to edge all paths and beds around the
clubhouse and front entrance.
–
Designed flower plantings for Clubhouse and
front entrance and contacted supplier of material.
Golf Course Accessories (Ongoing Seasonal Maintenance):
–
Sand, clean and paint inventory of traffic signs
and stakes and hazard stakes.
–
Sand, paint and repair ball washers and bases
–
Repair and paint Water Cooler stands
–
Clean and Paint (Plasti-Dip) tee markers
–
Clean, repair and construct new traffic blocks
and curbs
Scheduled for Completion:
–
#2 Rear Green-side Bunker – eliminate far left
side outcrop. Repair drainage and
backfill with soil and seed. Will Return
bottom edge of bunker to its original location.
–
#11 tee – Use existing sod on 7 tee to add more
teeing surface to 11 tees.
–
Use current supply of soil to begin global
objective of leveling low drain lines in primary rough.
–
Use existing inventory of pavers to enhance
water cooler stands and select bench areas.
–
Will re-assess the overall health and need for
damaged rain shelter on 3 and evaluate if the best action is repair or removal.
Cart Paths:
–
Use millings to repair potholes and repair
existing paths. #17/#18 priority.
–
Install Cart path using millings on #5 tee
–
Install Cart path using millings on #7 tee
–
Extend cart path further up right side of 2
fairway. Run drain line to french drain
to alleviate wet spot in primary rough at start of fairway.
–
Remove red brick on #6 cart path and establish
turf
Bridge Repair:
–
We need to lift the walking bridge on #6 and
reset the load bearing columns which have begun to sink in order to level the
bridge.
–
Repair a few distressed boards on the large
bridge crossing to #15 tee.
Shop Improvements:
-
Repaired and installed new posts and panels #8
side of Grounds building
–
Continue to work to clear debris, level and
grade rear of shop using existing materials.
–
Completed improvements to irrigation and
equipment room including re-wiring for additional outlets and lighting.
–
Cleaning, repair and organization of Chemical
Storage facility to comply with EPA inspection regulations.
–
Clean gutters and remove storm debris from
roof. Need to tar roof above set up room
to quell leaking and repair interior sections of water damaged ceiling inside.
